Piercing sirens and blood chilling screams filled the tense air. People crowded around and an ambulance rushed into the scene. I was too horrified to see the result of the unfortunate event but still I had to go and see if she was okay. My hands were shaking and I couldn’t even feel my legs. All of it happened so fast that I couldn’t even think right. All I remember was walking home from school and then seeing a car…..and Yumi……I tried to warn her but it was too late.

About 15 minutes later the ambulance reached the hospital. I had rushed into the ambulance with Yumi to stay by her side. She was admitted into the emergency room. The doctor told me it was better if I stayed outside so I did. A couple of Yumi’s friends came over to see if she was okay but were told by the nurses to come back later. I couldn’t leave Yumi, it just didn’t feel right. She had always been there for me when I needed her, so I’m not willing not to do the same for her. It felt like eons had passed by until the doctor came out. He had a grim look on his face and an unfortunate look in his eyes. He kept his eyes down and said “She’ll make full recovery in about a week but….” “That would only be if she gets a major blood transfusion. In the car accident she lost a lot of blood. If she doesn’t get a donor, she may not be able to survive.” I took a deep breath and let it out. “Is it possible that I could give my blood to her? I think I have the same blood type as her. It was B positive wasn’t it?” “He gave me an odd look. “You’re merely a child. There’s no possible way you’d be able to recover all that blood back in nearly a day or two or even in a week.” I stared at my shoes; adverting my eyes from his adverse face. He sighed. “Hmm, you must be really good friends with this girl to go to this extent. I’ll arrange the blood transfusion tomorrow, but first I need to get a guardian approval. Now it was my turn to be the adverse one.
I walked home in silence. There was a string of hope left for Yumi’s full recovery. Yet sadly that string was left in the hands of my father who rarely comes home. As I approached my house I noticed my dad’s rugged old car was parked in the front. A spark of anger and helplessness sparked throughout my body. Why did it have to come to this?! I sighed and opened the front door. Well this is for Yumi’s sake so I should have nothing against it. As the door creaked open silently, the smell of alcohol and burned cigarettes filled the air. I tried to keep myself from gagging from the overpowering smell. I walked up to my dad, almost tripping over one of the beer bottles on the floor. His face looked agitated and tired. He looks like hasn’t shaved or bathed in days. Anger and helplessness sparked throughout my body once again. Yet, deep down inside I couldn’t help but feel I a little sorrow for him. “What do you want Sakuya?” I clenched my fist. I take that back. I tried to hide all my anger inside for him not even being able to say my name right. “Is there anyways you could sign this paper?” I said with fake innocence in my voice. “Why do I have to sign this paper? Make someone else do it.” “I can’t dad…I couldn’t help but cringe when I said dad. I haven’t called my dad “dad” in year’s…” “Dad it’s just that I have to get this signed by my guardian, not someone else.” “Fine then Sakuya, I’ll sign it when I remember later.” The spark of anger and helplessness turned into flames inside my body and I could feel my seconded personality lingering out. “DAD YOU HAVE TO SIGN IT NOW! YUMI’S NEED’S ME. SHE IN THE HOSPITAL AND SHE NEED A MAJOR BLOOD TRANSFUTION. CAN’T YOU AT LEAST BE HELPFUL TO ME ONCE IN MY LIFE?” He gave me a sharp glare. “HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I TOLD YOU NOT TO RAISE YOUR VOICE AT ME? AND IF THIS YUMI GIRL’S IN TROUBLE, SHE DESEVERED IT! SHE’S TURNED YOU INTO THE DEVIL’S CHILD” His words were like cold daggers going through my heart. I could feel tears whelming up in my eyes due my sadness and frustration. “Oh I give up. There’s no way I could get help from such a cold dad like ice. I really hate you!!!” I ran out of room and right out the front door. I didn’t know where I was going yet I kept running and running until I was exhausted. I collapsed onto the floor and let my tears stream down my check. He’d never understand what Yumi means to me. Never. I covered my face with my hands. I felt like screaming my frustration out. Usually when something like this happens, Yumi’s always there by my side, protecting me, and being a shoulder to cry on. But now she’s not. Ugh, I feel like I’m trapped in a cold empty wasteland off snow. Just then I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was Icey. I blushed in embarrassment and wiped by tears off quickly. “Did something happen Sakura?,” he said comfortingly. “Hn, not really,” I said in a voice that had obviously lying. He sighed and then pulled me up gracefully and put me on a nearby bench. “If you got something to say, just say it already. It’s better to get your feelings out that having them burden you.” I felt a lump at the bottom of my throat and tried to swallow it back but it was no use. The tears I just wiped off just came pouring back out.
